What is Arista EOS?

EOS (Arista Extensible Operating System) is a Network Operating system made for networking hardware from Arista Systems. It runs on an unmodified Lunix Kernal and comes as one “image” which can be used across all Arista products. In order to communicate with switches, EOS offers application programming interfaces (APIs) which can also be used to control all aspects of the switch.

What is Prometheus?

Prometheus an open-source systems monitoring and alerting software. It was originally built at SoundCloud in 2012, and now has a very active developer and user community. Prometheus records real-time metrics in a time series database. It is built using a http pull model and has a flexible query language (PromQL) with real-time alerting. The Prometheus server actively pulls (scrapes) metrics from applications it monitors. This is in contrast to other tools such as Graphite, which passively waits for the applications to push their metrics.

Prometheus is composed of multiple components, such as; The Prometheus Server, Client Libraries and Exporters, Push Gateway, Alertmanager, and various support tools.
